Nic Webb’s studio is based in the coastal region of East Sussex, UK. His practice is at the forefront of British craft and has been exhibited extensively in the UK and USA at Design Miami, PAD London, FOG San Francisco, and TEFAF Maastricht. The artist’s work is part of significant international private collections across the world.
Recently, in collaboration with the Gallery and Racquet Studios, the artist has developed a service for clients in which high-resolution 3D renderings of his Oak pendants can be used to visualise and compose installations of his works in space, before the making process has even begun. This service augments the potential of interior commissions, showcasing ideas during initial design stages, through to visual renderings of works placed within a client's home or other settings that aid both physical resonance and installation planning.
The artist has showcased his work with the gallery for over a decade, encompassing lighting installations, furniture, and elegant organic sculptures. Working primarily with wood, Nic employs innovative techniques such as carving, sculpting, scorching, and treating surfaces to create his distinctive forms. He considers each piece a collaborative process, guided by the unique character of the timber itself. Nic embraces the organic nature of wood, handling it with a fluidity typically reserved for lighter materials. Drawing inspiration from research trips to the West Coast of the US, influenced by the vast, transcendental landscapes and the aesthetics of Japanese culture, Nic's work is a thoughtful interplay of shared histories and common values. In his latest collection, Nic returns to the vessel as a sculptural form.
