Yrjö Kukkapuro is one of the most well-known and renowned Finnish designers. He was born in Viipuri in 1933. He earned his interior architecture degree from Helsinki’s Institute of Industrial Arts in 1958, and in 1959, he opened his own design firm, Studio Kukkapuro. From the 1960s to the 1990s, Kukkapuro, a well-known award-winning designer, served as a teacher, professor, and rector. Many institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art MoMA in New York, the Victoria & Albert in London, the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg, the National Museum of Art in Stockholm, and the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, have permanent collections of his work. Numerous solo and group exhibitions of Kukkapuro’s art have taken place all over the world.
